Newsletter: Despite Bad Press, Businesses Flock to This Veterans Nonprofit 🫑 ; Resto Chain Raises $1M for Future Farmers of America πŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎ ; 16 Lessons From Studying the $700M Brand Liquid Death

Two things this week.✌️

1️⃣ With the holiday on Monday, I won't be publishing a newsletter on Wednesday, December 27th. I'll be back in your inbox on Wednesday, January 3rd.

2️⃣ Over 2% of my newsletter subscribers have taken MY YEAR-END NEWSLETTER SURVEY! Thank you!

However, I want to get to 5% of my subscribers.

Can you please - pretty please with holiday sugar cookies on top - help me by completing it? It's just seven questions. And one of those questions is if you want a FREE Selfish Giving t-shirt!

You completing my survey is the only thing on my wishlist for Christmas. πŸ™ Well, that and world peace.πŸ•Š

I must say I'm learning a lot from the survey responses. Frankly, I've been surprised by a few things. Like...

πŸ‘Ž My "Cause Jobs" section is less popular than I thought. Maybe I'll get rid of it and replace it with something else??? I need more subscribers to weigh in. I don't want to cut it if you really like it!

πŸ‘ Subscribers want more examples of successful partnerships. And insights on what they can learn from them. Heck, I thought for sure people wanted to see more pictures of my gahhden!

😠 65% of respondents must hate me. They would be totally fine getting my newsletter EVERY OTHER WEEK instead of EVERY WEEK. I was like, "DAT'S COLD!!" πŸ˜‚ But I appreciate their honesty. As Henry David Thoreau said, "Any truth is better than make-believe."

Will I stop sending my newsletter EVERY WEEK? I'm not sure I could do that. That's ten years of muscle memory!

My fate is in your hands! Could you take my survey?

Remember, when you complete the survey, you'll be in the running to win a Selfish Giving T-shirt!

THIS SURVEY IS MY DESTINY 😳

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. How sales coaching boosted Wounded Warrior Project's partner outreach. (Webinar Replay)

2. Give Freely is a shopping assistant that finds coupons and donates sales commissions to charities as consumers shop. And because it was created right here in Massachusetts, you already know it will be wicked awesome. πŸ™Œ

3. Culver's Restaurant, with 930 locations, raised a million dollars for Future Farmers of America in 2023. How did they do it? On Scoops of Thanks Day, Culver exchanged a scoop of fresh frozen custard for a $1 donation. Culver's raised over $150k! Here's how they raised the rest.

πŸ€‘ Marketing Your Cause

1. 16 lessons from studying the $700M brand Liquid Death. Some good takeaways here. Consider #4: Brand is more important than product.

😎 Cool Jobs in Cause

1. Account Manager, Corporate Partnerships, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Remote ($60k - $65k)

2. Sr. Vice President, Corporate Philanthropy, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Remote ($170k - $180k)

3. Director, Corporate Partnerships & Business Development, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Atlanta

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. I've written multiple times about the practices of Wreaths Across America, which places wreaths on the graves of military veterans. In 2017, I thought Wreaths was reforming its ways and doing the right thing. That no longer seems to be the case.

2. HermΓ¨s billionaire plans to leave half his fortune to an ex-gardener. He could do worse!

3. Kids are using PowerPoint slide decks to detail every item on their wish list.

Geez, my son only gave us a one-page, single-spaced Google doc with links for his wishlist!

Did I mention he's 21? πŸ™„ 🎁 (🎁 = I have a paid subscription to this publication and am "gifting" you this article)
