Build-A-Book

Cat_in_the_hat_1It's hard to believe that the book The Cat in the Hat turns 50 this month.  While I've heard that Thing 1 and Thing 2 haven't fared well in old age--because of an overactive youth no doubt--that can't be said of the Cat in the Hat.  Build-A-Bear Workshop is offering a make-your-own Cat that is sure to bring this famous character to life for any child.

You may also be introducing The Cat in the Hat book to a whole new generation of readers.

From now until March 23rd, Build-A-Bear Workshop will donate a portion of the proceeds on every Cat sold to First Book, an international nonprofit that gives children from poor families the chance to read and own their first new books.  I can't think of a better first book for a child to own than The Cat in the Hat.

And if you haven't been to Build-A-Bear before, your kids are in for a real treat.  They'll literally make their Cat from scratch.  Stuffing, stitching, naming and dressing they do it all.  It's pretty cool.

Couple your new Cat with The Cat in the Hat book and you can teach your child about the rewards of reading, giving and receiving.  And why they should never have a playdate with Thing 1 and Thing 2.

Build-A-Bear has nine Massachusetts locations, including one downtown at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
